Karen - I understand that you have spoken with some people who told you that marijuana is addictive - but they're wrong. Addiction is a physiological process that involves the interaction of neurotransmitters and neuroanatomy. It's been well studied all over the world for decades.

It is possible to become psychologically dependent on marijuana as a "crutch" but it is not "addictive" in the way that other drugs are addictive, e.g., alcohol, cocaine, heroin, opiates, even caffeine.

If you quit drinking coffee, you get a headache. You don't even get that if you quit smoking dope.

As for asking cops to explain the physiology of drug addiction -- are you kidding?

Searching for an analogy -- why not ask divorce lawyers to act as marriage counselors? Why not ask stock brokers to act as financial advisors? Ask plastic surgeons to advise teenage girls on beauty tips? Ask Bill Gates to help you figure out your Apple computer, or Steve Jobs help you with your PC?
