Certainly there is no real improvement in the plight of humans, even though the most dire predictions did not come true (yet). Forty thousand children are still dying of preventable diseases every day, so not much is getting better. As the world's water supply is gradually privatized in third world countries, I think there will be a huge leap in preventable deaths from unclean water. What really is the difference between dying of water borne diseases and famine, if you are among the dead? The fact that Ehrlich was not 100% correct so far does not mean that things are going well, or that visionaries should not try to imagine the future so we can do what we can to prepare for it.
