My heart goes out to the Iraqi people. I don't know what would be best for them. I think it would have been better if we had not invaded- but of course I can't be sure, and no one can be sure that either option was right, not until all the dust settles, and even if the dust settles positively, it doesn't justify the risk that was taken (imo).

However, now that we have invaded, I don't know how we disengage. Our government, obviously, did not expect the problems they have faced and are facing in Iraq. I hope we get a credible moment to leave Iraq- I think that's the best we can hope for. I'm not sure the place will hold together, even if we stay, so it would be nice if, for example, the government of Iraq ordered us out (and soon)- because then at least we would have an excuse, which I think we desperately need, to save face on the world stage.
