Anyone have any information on the energy inputs needed to grow cane? Could the land be used more profitably to produce other crops? When governments insist that behavior be modified one often finds the measures being applauded as far sighted and needed, when the outcome is far from certain, except for the income to the few that had the inside connections to get a government to mandate the policy that would enrich them. Lived 14 year in S.A. of which two were in Brazil. Does not make me an expert but I did lear one thing. When smart people insist on doing dumb things, it only proves that they are smart people, and that one has not yet figured out the obvious.
