I agree with that. However a serious move toward restoring the draft would get sufficient people off their asses and provide some impetus toward the above stated objective.

Rhetoric, speeches, history books are ineffective. We need millions of young Americans seriously considering that they might be dragged into the military snakepit.

When we've got the likes of Newsweek feeding the popular myth of the warrior-hero on it's cover we are way past the stage where dialogue and debate are going to accomplish much. Fear and anger will do it. Americans have been asleep too long. Some of the most antiwar people I know are guys in their 80's who fought at Normandy and in the Pacific. Many of my fellow Vietnam era vets are also coming around. But we need angry parents, and fearful college students to turn this thing around.

Last week an old friend of mine found Barry Sadler's "Ballad of the Green Berets" in one of his trunks. He took it downstairs and smashed it. His son is stationed just outside Mosul.
