Hi Grainne,
re: "" think a lot of people would return to farming if they could have their own small organic farms. Remember, there is that farm in Montana or wherever that Coug posted a link to that teaches people to farm.""
That farm is just outside of Moscow, Idaho... MaryJanesFarm.. A beautiful woman doing beautiful work.. What more can a person ask for?

And I want to let my stream of consciences go on to my own experience of how animals relate to and have feelings toward us humans and all others too..
When I was about 16, I was home alone when my uncle came rushing over to say he needed help. He had the adjoining ranch. He said he had a young heifer, too young to calve, (1.5-2.00 years or so), that had had a calf, but when doing so had thrown her womb too. He couldn't get hold of the vet by phone, busy probably. So he wanted me to come over and help the heifer. So I did of course..
The heifer was laying down in his home place barn. Really in shock. So I grabbed the vagina of the heifer and tried to stop the bleeding and anything else coming out and held on to try to stop the shock. My uncle went with his pu to try to find the vet..(no cell phones in those days), I was probably alone with that young animal maybe an hour or so, trying to comfort her with one hand as she lay flat on her side with her head down.. Trying to make her hang on..
All at once, she raised her head, looked right at me with her beautiful eyes wide open, bellowed softly, laid down and died. It has stuck with me to this day.. She was trying to thank me I know.. It changed my life from that day on..
Shortly after, my uncle arrived with the vet. He said we done fine, except to stuff everything back.. But I don't know.. I don't remember what happened to her calf.. I don't think it lived.. :(
