Negative... we were in a 'slow-down' at the time, but not yet officially a 'recession'.

The council of Economic Advisors officially dates the start of the recession to the end of the first quarter (around May), and say it ENDED at the end of the year... officially one of the shallowest and shortest recessions on record.

(No doubt because of the tidal wave of liquidity Greenspan unleashed in the economy... possibly leaving much of the asset revaluation yet undone, left over for the next coming recession --- where the Fed may be out of ammunition.)
