Orckit Communications Presents First Public Demonstration of ADSL over ISDN at Telecom Inter@ctive 97 in Geneva
TEL AVIV, Israel, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Orckit Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq:ORCTF), today announced that in its first public demonstration, Orckit will show the ADSL over ISDN feature of its ORvision ADSL modem at the new Telecom Inter@ctive 97 Exhibition of the International Telecommunications Union, on booth 2580. Orckit will also demonstrate high-quality of video conferencing over ADSL with Fujitsu (booth 1370).
ADSL is a modem technology that enables telecom operators to provide up to 8 Mbps access to their customers over their existing Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) copper lines. Orckit's ADSL over ISDN feature allows operators to deploy ADSL over their existing ISDN infrastructure, making ADSL even more likely to co-exist with ISDN. The ADSL modem works together with Orckit's new ISDN splitter, which enables parallel and simultaneous transmission of both ADSL and ISDN over a single twisted pair line.
``By using Orckit's ADSL over ISDN breakthrough, operators who have already invested in ISDN can continue earning on their investment, even as faster technologies such as ADSL are deployed,'' said Orckit Executive Vice President Dan Arazi. ``European Telcos expect that ISDN business users will be among the first to require ADSL broadband access. Therefore, the availability of ADSL that operates over ISDN gives these operators a big edge in meeting their customers' needs.''
Orckit gave private demonstrations of the new technology to several telecom operators earlier this year, but this is the first time that the new feature will be publicly displayed.
Live Video-conferencing over ADSL
In a separate demonstration, a live 8 Mbps ADSL link between Orckit and Fujitsu's booth will demonstrate small office/home office applications on regular telephone wire, including: high quality video-conferencing, high speed file transfer and Video-on-Demand.
Orckit's ADSL technology will also be featured at three additional locations within the show: booth 1360, 1570 and 2260. |
