Belief that freedom is more or less important than equality, or belief that democracy is itself directly a good thing, are examples of ideological opinions. Belief that government should work for the betterment of the middle class (see thread header) or for the poor is an ideological opinion. Not only is it impossible to get ideology out of politics it isn't a good idea to do try to do so.

Also you can have partisanship and pigeon-holing without a lot of ideology. You can have parties based on regions, or racial/ethnic/tribal differences, or religious affiliation rather then differences in political ideology. I think this usually produces a worse result than ideological parties (usually not always, there have of course been disastrous political ideologies).

Earlier you said -

"The rejection of ideology part is because many things are done strictly on an ideological basis without regard to the long term or even short term effects."

But what you would consider short, medium and long term benefits depends on your ideology and political opinions. If you start with people trying to do what they think is best for the country you will end up with ideological blocks, because people think different things are good for the country. If what policies would produce the best result for the country were simple and obvious and near universally excepted then you wouldn't have much need for ideological battles, but that idea doesn't describe the real world very well.
