I don't.

If I sell my house, and give you 10% of the proceeds a year for the next 10 years than you are quite a burden on me. This would be true even if you are wealthy. It is also true if you were poor but the extra income pushed you over the poverty line.

If other people have to give you money you are a burden on them. SS does the exact opposite of preventing old people from being a burden on society. It does however prevent some of them from being a financial burden on their relatives, and it prevents others from being very poor, both things that in isolation are good things.
