I usually use the terms extremists, neocons, religious nuts to describe the far right that has taken over the GOP. I suspect there are more moderates that are unhappy with Bush & Co. than it appears.

The problem for a politician is simple: if they come out strong against Bush they jeopardize their career. Some would say - do that! But the politicians probably think they can do more good from the inside. Who knows. I'd like to think I would stand up on the Senate floor and say what I think about Bush. Of course I've always been a maverick.
