R. D., I believe the "value of a life," has been redefined in some circles to mean the potential earning power of a given life, or person.

You jogged my memory back to the infamous exploding Pinto debacle. To protect the gas tanks from explosion via rear-end collisions would have added one dollar to the cost of manufacture. Iacocca's mandate, carved in Iacocca granite, was that the car be produced at a cost which would sell the cars profitably at $1900 but not $2000. Ultimately, it cost Ford Motor Company far more in settlements. Again, "Who in Hell can ever really know."

I haven't seen a Pinto on the streets in ages. Most are now probably landfill. - Holly

<edit> "value of life" in first line changed to "value of a life."
Sometimes I read/type too fast. <g> Nevertheless, that is
how I read it when I typed my original response. - Holly
