Frist is despicable. I have thought so for some time. No medical doctor should make sweeping statements purely for political gain about the condition of a person he has not examined, based on stories told by relatives who are not objective. At the same time, I would not have referred to Terry Schiavo as an "ex-person." She was a person until she died, a person many people loved, just a person who was unfortunate and became severely disabled. I don't think personhood is a state that can be lost. It somehow rubs me the wrong way in the same sense that I get upset when pro-abortion advocates argue that the aborted fetus is just a bunch of cells, or a zygote, when it was a very tiny human being instead, regardless of the way one feels about abortion. I realize the two are not exactly parallel, but somehow I feel the same way about them.
