Ted, I think their shortfall of hybrids and small cars is symptomatic of their problems and not the root cause. Its not the first time GM has failed to anticipate changes in taste and needs.

Another reason why I was scratching my head when Mindmeld said GM was going down because their cars are too big. Like you said, the problems within GM go much deeper than fuel-efficiency.

By the way, I wonder how Ford is doing these days. Haven't heard much from them since Bill Ford took over the CEO position from what's his face.
