England is a major producer of drugs itself. I am not sure what your point is, really. America also is a major producer of drugs. My point was about how the anti-vivisectionists have been perhaps more effective in England about bringing this issue up for public debate, not about what country makes more drugs.

It think that once penicillin and some other basic drugs were developed, there really have not been hugely striking benefits of drugs. We have saved hundreds of millions of people in the last fifty years? With what? How many people have drugs killed? If you look at the Vioxx/associated painkiller situation, it is obvious that the drug companies knew long before they were taken off the market that the drugs were dangerous. The American pharmaceutical companies have absolutely no morality at all, and simply exist to make money. Nothing wrong with profits, but if you are pushing drugs, safety should be first, in my opinion.

What could save millions of lives is to end factory farming and its associated antibiotic use immediately. Antibiotic-resistant infections are extremely dangerous to health, and they are rampant now in America. So is a diet that is heavy in meat. We could do a lot more by preventing degenerative diseases than treating them with drugs that are often inefficient and dangerous as well.
