I agree, but pointing how hybrids have become so popular and how GM completely missed the boat is a good case in point. The solution isn't for Americans to get pissed at Toyota and impose tarriffs and sanctions. Instead it's to let GM go bankrupt and work with Toyota to get them to continue investing in R&D to lower the prices of hybrids.
