Bill: My parents were very proud to be on the FBI's subversive liberals list, so I guess I'm following in a grand tradition. Seriously, Gates is a very smart man and believe me, he is more convinced of the demise of the current (note current) Wintel model than we are. This explains 425 million for Web TV, one billion for high speed cable access and lord knows how much for content development. By the way, I LIKE Slate - I don't care if it is a print magazine on a Web site. The Real Audio poetry readings are fantastic.

What amazes me is that Mr Market keeps valuing stocks like Dell, CPQ, GATE as though everything is going to continue as it has been and people will buy $2500 PCs and upgrade to the next Intel chip architecture. Check out the current Information Week online for an article detailing how corporate PCs will be under $1,000 by the end of the year because no one wants NCs to have a chance.

If NCs were such a bad idea, would everyone be slashing PC prices?
