I agree that Bush's remarks don't help Iranians. We already know that the Iranian elections are a sham. They barred almost all of the leading reformists from even participating in the election. So that invalidates any result. So that is what Bush and Rice were complaining about.

However, when the U.S. publicly lambasts the Iranian elections, it spurs the clerics into underground action to get tough on their people. So I'm sure they got out there and force alot of people to vote, as well as told more than a few who to vote for. In addition, alot of Iranians don't like us. So anything they can do to do the opposite of what they think we want is what they will do. Thus, the results.

Another thing. It's funny how they call Rafsanjani a moderate pragmatist. This is the same guy who said that if Iran had he nuclear bomb Israel would cease to exist as a problem in the Middle East. If he is moderate, then I'm pacifist, liberal.

Anyway, there will be no reform in Iran any time soon. They will have to wait until all the current revolution era people dia off. Those Iranians are out of luck.
