Saddam screwed up, he didn't win. I don't think we wanted him to win, just not lose. What would we want a superstate (Iran-Iraq) in the ME for? The could take Saudi and control the oil spigot. So, he had to be taken out and a new plan implemented. Taking Saddam out took fifteen years and two small wars and that's where we are now. Uh, no. We're stuck in the 2nd small war wondering what to do NOW. In fact one might even say the US has been hoisted on its own petard. Yeah. Wasn't it nice back when the good guys wore white hats and the bad guys wore red? Makes you long for the Evil Empire.
