Thanks for the note, karen..Yes, I am interested in Federal Employee benefits. What that means to me is that the Government does have an overall awareness of the cost of premiums, and the benefits of having a large risk pool vs a small one....You and I have talked about "risk pool" before.
Your plan sounds like a good plan, (but not great) and one that most probably no one who works for the Government can get turned down for...That's one of the benefits of belonging to such a large group.
And exactly why I think the Government could insist the rest of us who aren't Government employees, could be banded together as the Gov't employees are, and have access to several plans available, just as the Gov't employees are.
With the plan you chose, did you have the ability to increase your payment for more coverage per day at a later time? The plan we were looking at was considerably more expensive per month....but we had to be accepted first. Both of us were rejected for previous and present health issues....Perhaps if things get better for both of us, we could qualify...The really hard thing is, neither of us have anything like cancer, or AIDS, or TB, or any such thing.
And yes, I did mean Medicaid, not Medicare. What determines what monies the States receive for Medicaid? I thought the majority of the funding was from the Federal Govt... If so, shouldn't the amount per person be applied evenly by the Feds, with the only deviation being cost of living...i.e. It is much more expensive to live in SFO than in Gallup, NM. etc.
Thanks for leading me back to the page for this one....I missed totally the non bolded hourly nursing rate....My bad.
But still, nursing home costs vary greatly between States....
This whole subject is going to be a long and hard one...On one hand, politically, many people have bought into the political push that "the government will pay for everything", and therefore haven't saved for much of anything. I'm referring to the folks younger than about 70 years...The older folks had FDR and Friends telling them that for years, but even so, many of this generation of people, still tried to do as much for themselves as possible. Rising costs on everything, have pretty much taken all of their savings.
I really think our Government, both Democrats and Republicans, MUST stop trying to buy votes, and encourage people to save for all the costs of older years.
I wonder if that will ever happen? Probably not, as long as both sides are buying votes, and ignoring illegal immigration (which is accounting for rising costs). |
