Once the Japanese government saw what atomic bombs could do, and there was obviously more than one, and the circle was closing, they sensibly called it a day and surrendered. That was the end of the killing. If the USA had tried to invade, I think a lot of US soldiers would have been killed and they would have killed lots of civilians while trying to gain ascendancy. I suppose they could have just encircled Japan perpetually, but then who would have supplied my Toyota Camry and helped produce CDMA devices? Mqurice
