Who can forget the tech boom/bust? Those who were astute enough to avoid the tech stocks and those whose assets collapsed in the same, both remember it clearly. So how can we prevent getting caught in an oil bust? I judge that nobody will be able to say with much rationality when the top price has been reached. So my decision is to start selling when the energy stocks in my portfolio, now about 52%,have become 75%. At that point I will sell whatever is necessary to keep the proportion of energy stocks at or below 75%.
Idiotic? Perhaps. But there are few good answers around.
