So I hardly think this qualifies as a distraction from a larger story, more like whipping up a small story into a cause celebre
If by "original story" you mean, as I do, the FBI report on the treatment of Al Qaeda prisoners in the Guantanamo prnison camp, I don't think the original story is a small story.
It's one of the biggest stories of our time. So big we are having a very hard time coming to grips with it.
Parenthetically, yesterday I slipped in my bathroom while cleaning the floor, and did a perfect split, which I am too old and stiff to do without suffering much pain, and have spent the subsequent hours alternately taking muscle relaxers and sleeping, but my sense is that it hasn't shown up in my posting. (I hope.) The only reason I mention it is that I am up too early so I can take another muscle relaxer and go back to bed, and was getting ice out of one of my freezers, and noticed that this particular freezer is only half full. Reason that it's only half full being that I've quit being afraid of another terrorist attack (knock wood) so haven't been replacing staples in my freezer and pantry as they are used up.
I spent the weekend in the basement storage area, sorting various boxes, some full of things to give to the Salvation Army, some full of old case files to shred, some full of books to let the kids take a look at, etc., etc. etc.
And four boxes of notes I had generated towards my history of the Great Depression that I put aside on 9/11 because I couldn't concentrate on it anymore. I think I could do it now. At least give it a try. I know not many people would be interested in a history of the Great Depression that finds its roots in World War I, but still, that's my opinion and I find myself willing to start again.
Maybe it's time to revisit the whole 9/11 Al Quaeda bit for all of us. Maybe it's no longer one of the third rails of American politics. If so, maybe Camp X-Ray is something we should take a look at.
None of the people who post on this board trust government at all times and all places. So what's the fuss? |
