JDN, that mixture is called E85. Certain vehicles such as the Ford Taurus are available in flexfuel versions that are certified to work with both E85 and normal gasoline. There's a ton of info about E85 on Google...

$2.00 gas/Why not Ethanol / Can it make a comeback?
Subject 55246

FYI the current corn-based ethanol is, at best, not very efficient. Some researchers claim it is a net waste of energy. I see it as a brute-force market-share grab like Bill Gates with Windows 1.0, financed by the federal tax breaks and the mandated use as a gasoline additive. If some of the current research and development pans out as hoped/hyped, Ethanol 3.0 could become profitable without favored tax treatment.
