It's really dumb to be wasting time over the conflating of what Durbin said and what some people inferred that he said when we could be dealing with what is or isn't appropriate treatment of prisoners.

I think that's the whole point of the outrage. "My country, right or wrong."

Meanwhile, the business of deciding what's right and what's wrong does go on.

For example, Russ Limbaugh shouted himself blue in the face about "fraternity pranks" and Abu Ghraib, but the business of firing some, demoting some, and prosecuting some continued without regard for his bloviations. As will this.

But here I think there is plenty of unhelpfulness on all sides. I assume you read the essay by Pavel Litvinov criticizing Amnesty International for calling the prison camps on Guantanamo a "gulag."
