If God had meant for us to eat animals, don't you think he would have made it so eating animals didn't cause increased rates of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, etc.?
I have never seen a credible argument made that shows a causal relationship that meat is the cause of these maladies. Because you infer that there is a relationship, does not make it true. I find the anecdotal evidence that veganism inhibits cerebral development to be far more credible than anything that suggests that meat causes cancer, heart disease, stroke, etc.....
If God had meant for us to eat animals, don't you think we would have more of a killer instinct, like prey animals do?
Are you trying to assert that man throughout history hasn't had a killer instinct? It might behoove you to look into some of the more primitive cultures that still exist today in Africa or South America. Or maybe go to Wisconsin during hunting season. It is simply absurd to assert that we don't have an innate killer instinct. However, our culturization has denatured our natural instincts to where much of our population would be inable to survive in a truly natural setting. I would also assert that it is the numbing of our natural hunting instincts, specifically those of the male of the species, that is the root of many of the ills of our society. Veganism is just one of many symptoms of a true cancer that riddles our society. We also discourage protecting ourselves from physical threats. And this is no passive discouragment. We make it illegal to protect ourselves, we take away the means of protecting ourselves and we punish our children if they do the natural thing and protect themselves. Fortunately, veganism has no bearing on my life. We were meant to eat meat, and even if a law was passed outlawing the eating of meat, we would still eat meat.
By the way, my remark may have seemed flippant, about us being meant to eat meat because it tastes so good. We are a part of a very complex ecosystem. We didn't appear out of the blue in this ecosystem, we evolved with it. Part of this evolution included taste buds on our tongues and olfactory senses to assist in identifying edible foods. It isn't a freaky coincidence that the things that taste and smell good, are actually edible foods. If meat was that toxic to our physical health, natural selection would have taken care of meat eaters and vegans would be the dominant food based culture.
I think that the only hope for vegans is to invite a couple of hunter friends over for a nice BBQ with some delicious new york steaks and then to sit down for movie night featuring "Fight Club".
