Got an Ampex "news" item from Socttrade last week. Source was Thompson's financial Jun 18, 2005 (Thomson Financial via COMTEX) -- Company: Ampex Corp (AMEX:AEXCA) Actual EPS for FY End (12/2004): 12.06 Current FY High EPS Estimate: 3.01 Current FY Low EPS Estimate: 3.01 Current FY Consensus Estimate: 3.01 Change from Previous Consensus Estimate: 0.00 Current P/E Ratio: 13.6 P/E Ratio for Next FY: 7.3 Current Industry P/E Ratio: NA 52 Week High Price: 56.75 52 Week Low Price: 1.70 Now their source would almost have to be Dutton...as far as I know the only analyst covering Ampex right now. A 2005 estimate of 3 bucks a share in earnings puzzles the daylights out of me. They already have bagged over 18 million in royalty lump sums alone this year. + another 3 or so in ongoing in the first quarter with a "royalties receivable" line item of just under 6 million for the second quarter. And ADS made a smidgen in the first quarter, and their break even level seems incredibly low right now. Know there will be pension payments and interest payments and very hefty legal expenses, but I still can;t figure out how West gets to 3 a share. Will be interesting to see....must be something I misunderstand or do not know (which wouldn't be unusual). But as a result of this estimate, Scottrade is listing their forward PE as just under 13.6 right now.
