I am not sure I can answer your question well. Perhaps Dave can take a stab at it from a different direction.

Video streams are sensitive to latency. On terminal servers shared cpu cycles result in latency while one task completes. An example is when my server automatically backs up my Excel files I lose functionality in my Citrix session until it is completed. It likely takes enough precedence that other users are delayed as well.

Citrix has bought several companies for their products. One beef that they lived with for several years was that users could not effectively stream video through terminal services. The developed a product internally, called VideoFrame. This blurb was out there:

"Citrix VideoFrame 1.0 is a complementary platform to MetaFrame that allows organizations to deploy streaming media to users within a server-based computing environment. It enables organizations to efficiently integrate, manage, publish and maintain streamed audio and video content to Program Neighborhood clients throughout the enterprise.
VideoFrame 1.0 includes a license for 200 concurrent streams, as well as Subscription Advantage at no additional cost to ensure that adaptors of VideoFrame 1.0 will receive the full benefits of future enhancements."

After the VideoFrame's canellation, Wyse developed a technology which they integrated with Citrix to address the issue. Their Unix based terminals had a subset of MediaPlayer recompiled for Unix which hooked into the video stream and relieved the TS of the load.

Perhaps the NetScalar acquisition can help them address the perceived weakness.
