I've been cleaning out my basement in anticipation that my mom may be moving in, shredding old case files, donating things to the Salvation Army, and dusting off the notes for the book I was working on and put aside on 9/11.
And came across some notes I had made towards a potential Master's thesis, on the sources of Iraq's WMD. A lot of the test tubes of anthrax spores and so forth came from a local non-profit scientific outfit that keeps tissue cultures for researchers worldwide, and the mother of one of my son's best friends works there, although she was not responsive to my initial questions. Anyway I thought that this issue could be worked into a MA thesis in 20th century history.
But after there were no significant stockpiles of WMD found I put that aside, because it was just too confusing.
I remember, very distinctly, before the war, the mantra was that Saddam was our creature and we gave him his WMD, especially Reagan and Bush I.
And now, it's "Bush lied," there never were any WMD.
The logical disconnect is so obvious that it should be embarrassing. But what really did happen? |
