"Sesame Street" is probably almost as much of a third rail in American politics as Social Security. Both my kids learned to read at age 3 in part by watching Sesame Street. I read to them a LOT, hours a day, but didn't teach them the alphabet because I thought that was being too pushy. They learned the alphabet from Sesame Street.

Newt Gingrich cut own his throat and wasted the capital of the 1994-1995 Gingrich Revolution by letting Clinton shut down government in 1996 -- but what really made people mad was closing down the museums and the national parks.

No Sesame Street on TV would be about as disruptive to American life. Not a good idea.

Limited government is a great theory, but don't take away Sesame Street.
