Obviously there's an enormous problem with the media: it sucks. I do not, however, believe it's a nationwide conspiracy involving tens of thousands of members of the media, corporate or otherwise. I think there's pressure to do certain things and people will do what they need to for their careers but I don't think it's a secret handshake conspiracy.

I've been hearing about the DSM on KGO for weeks now. The evening and early morning hosts yell at the daytime and early evening hosts about their inability to think clearly about the DSM, the war or Bush. KGO is an ABC/Disney owned station. It regularly plasters the administration and is still on the air. Bernie's latest gambit is to try and get Paul Krugman on his show. Since Krugman wants to send in a ton more troops into Iraq, Bernie wants to ask him if he's willing to send his own kids to fight or to go himself to fight. Ditto the Bush Twins who are just the right age.

I have no doubt that the management and editorship of the WashPost, NYTimes (in particular) have censored, are censoring and will continue to censoring administration-damaging material. They are, however, looking completely unreliable and have damaged their own reputations by being patsies. That's their choice.

I also have no doubt that the admin works overtime trying to control the media and, with the help of 911, have managed to do a dang good job. I think, however, that there are signs of progress and alternative sources of information that are coming to the fore.

Let the NYTimes edit itself into a hole, let the WashPost do the same thing. When the yammering gets loud enough and their employees become sufficiently embarrassed about the situation, things MAY change.

At any rate, I'm never going to be left enough for your tastes but we're both going to have to live with that. :)
