"As an aside--I think living life as a human being has everything to do with having a mind. If the brain or nervous system never develops or if it ceases to function--it is only gratuitous to call it human existence. Then we are pointed at another line, being how much of a brain or nervous system qualifies one for the personhood club. Is a genius more of a person than someone with an IQ of 80? On measures of compassion, I certainly do not see that correlation. We can surmise that reasoning ability is reduced as IQ is lessened but that is about all we know, and it doesn't seem to offer any evidence of what you are suggesting.
