I don't think the schizophrenic self-labeling of 'left/right/middle' has much utility anymore. More useful to PIN their ACTUAL POLICIES down as: 1) Pro big government or anti big government. 2) Pro individual rights & pro carefully conscribed powers of government or pro Authoritarianism and all-encompassing government powers. 3) Strict constructionist or 'see what I want to see in the Constitution'.... Etc.
