The Real Truth about Lefties and Patriotism
World War I - Socialist Eugene V. Debs jailed over opposition to the war
1939-41 - American lefties are total pacifists: They opposed US aid to Britain, and opposed US opposition to Hitler, because their darling, Uncle Joe Stalin, had signed a non-aggression pact with Adolf, and together they carved up Eastern Europe (the Baltics, Poland, Rumania, Moldovia, etc.)
1941 - The lefties, all of a sudden, are no longer pacificts. Why? Because the true object of their affection, Uncle Joe Stalin, is under attack by Hitler (they loved Hitler as long as he was in bed with their leader, the murderer Stalin). As of June 1941 they loudly politic for action against Hitler.
World War II - they totally support this war. Why? Not because they loved the U.S., but because the U.S. was fighting the enemy of their hero (i.e. Hitler was fighting their hero Stalin).
Post WWII - the lefties again revile the US as the enemy of peace during these early days of the Cold War.
Korea: they largely opposed this war (though the opposition wasn't very vocal because the House UnAmerican Activities Committee and Senator McCarthy had, happily, cowed them, somewhat.
Vietnam: Total opposition.
Gulf War (1990-91): Total opposition.
Afghanistan: (2001): Large-scale opposition.
Iraq: Total opposition.
The common theme: lefties are rarely patriotic and rarely support their own country. The few examples where they have (like WW2) was when the U.S. was helping the real object of their loyalty: Stalin. |
