Rick, it's good to hear your report. The Audio magazine review gave the Sony DVD very high marks, and they raved about the CD portion. The excellent audio quality is due in part to the high resolution D/A converters (20 bits), which reproduce 16-bit audio on CDs with higher accuracy than the typical commercial 16 bit D/A. Also, the shorter wavelength laser on DVD players (for reading the smaller pits on DVDs) probably produces a very clean analog signal at the laser pickup when reading the large CD pits, making it easier to produce a good, non-jittery digital signal for the CD audio portion of the DVD player.

Keep us informed, and thanks for the report!
