Clinton gave us two years of real surpluses and one year of breakeven his last three years. See the CBO numbers below. You can see that the longer Clinton's programs ran the better off we were. He had totally turned around deficit spending and started giving us surpluses. They were projected to be in the trillions within a few years. So what did Bush do? Reversed direction completely, slashed taxes for the rich and started the biggest deficits in our history.

Obviously our economy was much better off under Clinton, unless you're the CEO of Exxon of course. The very rich and oil companies have made out like bandits.
