another macro-trend to be conscious of when doing your DD.....

awhile back i posted an article about why many of the big newspaper companies are going to fail, and we looked at the long term charts for the New York Times and the Washington Post. Both have suffered since then, w/ NYT having done so heavily.

basically, most of the people my age don't read the paper anymore. as the population grows older and more web savvy, circulation declines. a few of the nimble publishers will adjust and prosper, but most are doomed

now then, for those on the fortuitous side of the digital divide, if you still don't know what an RSS feed is, you will soon. microsoft's new operating system (which i think is slated to be launched in 2007) will have what amounts to a fully integrated RSS reader. there are major implications for the radio and television industry

the ever-stodgy broadcaster Clear Channel Communications Corp is a good barometer for watching this trend unfold .. probably Viacom too
