Save your cherries for a higher use than burning; furniture, etc. Cherry is a valuable wood.
Friends had a few poplars; don't know how well they did.
I tried to root a few cuttings, but they didn't take.

My mom has an acacia that grows like that. Seed like crazy, sprouts from the roots and stumps.. Doesn't grow as fast as the poplar, but it's a vey good fire wood.
My bro, the smartest guy in the world, made the mistake of cutting a bunch down, without killing the stumps. I've been working on the resulting jungle for about 4 years.
