At the same time that we see the enormous power disparity between the latest AMD and Intel processors, EE Times crowns SOI as the "Low Power Heavyweight Champ". I can remember years ago when Intel derided SOI as "having no value at the 90 nm node". Who was that, the long since dumped Woo, Gelsinger, or Otelini? AMD's forward looking choice, and gamble, shows them as the real technological innovators.

Perhaps you missed it what with all the butt slapping and all but Intel's Dothan core is the low power champ. AMD went with poor yielding SOI because they had to. Intel didn't need it as Dothan clearly demonstrates. True, P4 is another story but you can't blame that on the process.
