It's a double shock to your system when someone close dies without warning. As for your wife's vehicle, if the insurance company wants to total it, I would be wary of trying to repair it. My wife totaled a car once and it didn't look that bad. I insisted on having the car repaired, but it never was right again. You will feel better if you just go buy a new one.
