'sTrue. Feel better now? :-)

You guys think small. That's your problem. We scientist types figured this out a long time time ago. The Orion Project. You eject nukes out the back out of a rocket; they explode against a thousand ton pusher plate. You start on the ground. It'll take about 100 megatons to get out out. After that it's easier. You can do a grand tour of the solar system in a few years. A few more of these and you can set up extraction ships and stations around Jupiter to extract methane and hydrogen from its atmosphere- -good fuels. Pull them out, you can get oxidizer from its moons and other planets, and you've got a working interplanetary transportation system. Then you bootstrap it to get interstellar travel.

Simple, right?

Who needs oil? :-)
