I know we exchanged notes on this before. After the White House's attempt to gut our Navy in its budget request, the Appropriations and Authorizing Committees doubled the number of ships the Navy is authorized to build. Congress, if not Mr. Bush, is noticing that China means business with its Naval shipbuilding. However, there doesn't appear to be much direction in the current Navy shipbuilding programs.

Probably within the next decade, China will try to force a naval confrontation with us in the general area of Taiwan. We will whine about it. In the end, we will back down and try to save face in a public relations stunt. This will have ramifications in the entire area, possibly the dollar (if it has value at that time), and possibly the world economy.
