Hi, first message here, long time AMD investor and lurker. Could not resist registering given the importance of this morning's news. The stock has gone up since the announcement and my take on it is that the lawsuit signals to the market that

a- AMD has the wherewithal to spend possibly tens of millions in legal fees for this case

b- AMD management is confident that they will make good use of the market gain potential that a favorable ruling may present them with.

Just a few years ago it would not matter even if Intel itself decided to leave the market to AMD since AMD did neither have the capacity nor the products to satisfy all three segments of the market.

I don't agree with some posters who say that this announcement has negative implications for the current quarter. This is something that is bound to be long-term, and AMD management is definitely looking at 2006 and beyond when Intel's bullying tactics might really start to hurt them and they are being proactive.
