We do need to be careful, but we also need to acknowledge how our current & past words & actions in Iraq have contributed to motivating all stripes of the opposition and examine what might be changed. Just like the timetable is your soapbox, I wish we would very clearly decouple our economic/oil issues from the security issues and get that message convincingly across to the Arab street. The problem is that many Americans don't think we should, but view it as our right to secure oil interests via the military. If a good chunk of the US population feels that way, then it is no wonder that some fraction of Iraqis view us dimly. People think that foreign policy is all about advancing our economic interests, rather than a more altruistic approach. IMO, that is asking for the sort of trouble we are in.
