Actually, I believe the reverse is true - most of AMD's recent gains have come because there are whole segments where Intel's product range is so limited that AMD faces no competition, whereas Intel faces AMD competition in pretty much every segment it sells to.

So what? If AMD can't supply the entire market they shouldn't be allowed to supply any of the market? Are you shooting for a soviet style commisariat of CPUs, refrigerators, etc?
