I believe it is because the court didn't want to rule in favor of journalists. If they actually believed that a free press (not that corporate media is actually a true free press model) is the watch-dog of government then they would have voted to allow the reporters to keep their sources secret. Instead, they just tossed it back.

None silence who design no Wrongs;
