eumenides,

Re: It's tragic that our Congresscritters are so gullible they fall for this silly ruse to steal taxpayers money to pursue evil deeds.

I see it differently. I do not believe many in Congress to be gullible. I believe them to be guilty. Here's a pair of books that I present in support of my contention that Congress is a criminal enabler of the militarization of America:

"The Wastrels of Defense" by Winslow Wheeler

"The New American Militarism" by Andrew Bacevich

Thanks for commenting on your situation in a "black ops" shop. You've confirmed what I've largely suspected for quite a while. That is to say, far too many covert operations being performed by the U.S. government and all its tentacled operators are designed to satisfy the greed of a tiny elite, and have no real link to national security per se.

The Frontline program last week on "Private Warriors" was good as an expose of the corporatization of war, but I don't think the producers spent nearly enough time on how the money works. They spent too much time discussing field operations, and much too little discussing how the creeps who own these privateering contract firms are stealing and hiding billions of taxpayer dollars in inaccessible off-shore accounts.

One of my great disappointments with the American public is that they can find themselves excited about "Fraud, Waste and Abuse" in domestic programs without too much difficulty, but turn a blind eye to FWA when it is in the name of "National Defense". This blind spot will bankrupt this nation if we don't start to act like adults when it comes to controlling the Pentagon Privateers.
