I have plenty of critical thinking skills. Perhaps that is what annoys you about me. I just don't think my critical thinking ends up supporting your value system. But if we met because we were on some committee together or something, you most probably would never even find out that what my belief system is, because in real life people don't reveal a lot of the things that cause such great differences of opinion in electronic forums like this.
You have so many misunderstandings about my positions. I don't know whether they are deliberate, but first of all I am a capitalist, not a communist. You are correct that I don't know a lot about the Bible, because it totally repulsed me when I was a child. I do know a lot about Jesus because I find him fascinating, and have read a lot about Christianity as it pertains to him. I do not believe there are many people--Bono being an exception--whose "Christian" beliefs have a lot to do with Jesus or his value system or who he was. That is why I like the bumper sticker "Who Would Jesus Bomb?" so much. I very much respect Christians who try to live like Jesus did, however.
What I said about dogs and children you have totally misunderstood. Someone, I think it was Alan Smithee, asked me if I would kill a thousand dogs to save one child, and I said I could not imagine a scenario where killing a thousand dogs WOULD save a child, so no, I wouldn't do that. At the same time I also said that if I had to choose whether to save a child or a dog, from being hit by a truck or something, I would definitely save the child. I am a little tired of being so dramatically misquoted, because it's like being maligned.
I don't think our values are dramatically different. I am a nice person whose family is very important to me. I think you are probably quite similar in the values you practice in your life. |
