I realize that anytime someone joins the Service they MAY be put into "harms way", but I would point out everytime you leave your house you are in harms way. For those of you that might be parents of young men or women of service age, I will tell you my experience.
I was a "Gentlemanly C student" in a Southern school system. When I lost my parents I had no idea what I would do, so I joined the USMC. I went in a typical mixed up teenager, I cam out a mature young man. I was able to go to a relatively elite private college in the North and through the discipline I learned in the MARINES and the ability to control myself and endure WHATEVER IT TAKES attitude I ended up graduating FIRST IN MY CLASS. From there I received the HIGHEST starting salary of my class in an International CPA firm. For 4 straight years I had the highest chargeable hours in the firm and was promoted quickly. I became a GENERAL PARTNER in a CPA firm and ultimately retired at age 47. I believe I own nearly all my success to my experience in the Marines. So, it AINT ALL BAD.
Just thought I would relay this info to any wondering parents out there. jdn
