Legally, a monopoly or "trust" exists when an individual or firm can explicitly force competitors out of business by slashing prices, buying up and hoarding supplies, bribery or intimidation (Clayton Antitrust Act of 1914).

I didn't know you were a lawyer. In fact, you didn't provide a link for your source, but it sounds like it was written by a journalist, and we all know how authoritative they are on any subject someone actually knows about.
